How to get to Hannah's Cottage
From Adelaide take the M1 freeway and leave at the Hahndorf / Woodside exit.
Continue on to Hahndorf and drive right into the township. In the middle of the township, look for the pedestrian crossing traffic lights. You'll see the post office on your right and the Hahndorf Academy on your left. (This is a lovely old two-storey stone building.) Immediately before the building, turn left into Balhannah Road. Pay attention to the speed limit here so that your holiday does not become more expensive!
Continue along for about 2 kilometres, passing Nitschke Drilling (JND) on your left. At the next intersection turn left into Jones Road. (At this intersection you will see a sign to Shaw and Smith Winery and our B and B sign. You have about three kilometres to go).
Pass Pain Road and then Johnson Road on your left. Continue past Shaw and Smith winery on your left and Nepenthe on your right. Pass the huge dam on your left and the 80k sign. As the road starts to climb slightly, slow down and prepare to turn left opposite the last of the huge gum trees which line the right-hand side of the road. Our entrance is easy to miss and is not lit at night so drive slowly in order to find us.
Turn into the entrance of "Botathan" where you will also see a "Hannah's Cottage" sign. Travel slowly up the long tree-lined drive and veer right at the cottage sign taking the driveway below the tennis court.
Directions from the M1 Freeway, from Murray Bridge
About 30 minutes on the Adelaide side of Murray Bridge, take the MOUNT BARKER exit off the freeway. As you come off the exit, turn right and cross back above the freeway.
- Pass through the traffic lights and continue on to Littlehampton / Nairne, a distance of about 2.5 kilometres.
- As you pass through Littlehampton, you will come to the Littlehampton nursery and the Great Eastern Hotel on the left.
- Turn left here into Junction Road for Balhannah.
- Travel along this road as it crosses the railway line and then runs mostly parallel with it for about 5 kilometres. Finally you’ll come to a GIVE WAY sign. Most traffic turns right over the railway line to Balhannah. Please go straight ahead instead! This is the beginning of JONES ROAD and you should see a sign to Hannah’s Cottage on the post to the right. You have about 300 metres to go.
- Follow the road around the sharpish bend to the left. Our driveway is on the right hand side, just before the road starts to go down the hill and just as you become aware of a stand of beautiful gums on your left.
- You’ll see our Hannah’s Cottage sign and the name of our property “Botathan”. Please drive slowly up the drive and follow the signs to the cottage.
*** If you get to the vineyards you’ve gone too far!
Directions from Woodside
- Travel through Woodside along Onkaparinga Valley Road to Oakbank.
- Continue through Oakbank, passing Oakbank High School and Kelsey Cottage on your left then the fire station and Oakbank Oval on your right.
- Continue into Balhannah passing the post office on your left and the petrol station on your right. Slow down and prepare to turn left at the Balhannah Hotel.
- Turn left into Junction Road (you’ll see our sign on the corner sign post). Continue up Junction Road to the railway line. Cross the line and turn hard right towards Hahndorf. As you turn you may notice our sign and the name of the road (Jones Road) on the post to the right near the railway line.
- Proceed around the sharp left-hand bend. Our property is about 200 metres along on the right-hand side. Our entrance is opposite the first of a stand of large gum trees, just before the road dips down the hill. You should notice our sign "Hannah’s Cottage B and B" and our property name "Botathan".
- Drive slowly up the drive and take the right-hand fork in the drive to the cottage.
