State Awards

Being consecutive winners of the SA Great Regional Tourism Awards for Best Self-Contained Accommodation in the Adelaide Hills (2005, 2006, 2007) and members of the Hall of Fame (which means that we cannot enter that category any more), we decided to take a huge step up and enter the South Australian Tourism Awards in 2009.
We are very proud of the fact that we won a gold medal in the Hosted Accommodation section at our first attempt at this level.
A Gold Medal is only awarded if an entry is judged to be “of a very high standard, where the judging panel awards the entrants a score of over 90% or higher”. (SATIC Winners Book 2009)
In addition to having a judge to stay overnight to test our product, we also had to put together a 30 page written submission addressing such issues as marketing and environmental sustainability.
Regional Awards

In 2005, 2006 and 2007 we won the SA Great Tourism Award for the best self-contained Bed and Breakfast accommodation in the Adelaide Hills Region of South Australia. As we had won the same award for three consecutive years we also went into the Tourism Hall of Fame.
In 2006 we also won the category for Deluxe Accommodation.
The awards that we have won (having only been in business since 2003) are your assurance of quality and professionalism in everything that we do.
The awards process
Each year we were nominated by someone in the community.
If a business decides to accept nomination it has to complete a 10 page written application and also undergo a visit from three judges who verify that what you claim in your written entry is actually what you do.
The written application covers such things as accommodation standards, business analysis, community involvement (local, regional and state), goals and objectives, hospitality, marketing, packaging, professional development and risk management.
The mere fact that we are prepared to go through such rigorous critiquing tells you a lot about us.
Last year at the awards ceremony the judges encouraged us to enter the state awards but, as we both have other jobs as well, we currently do not have the time free to do this as state awards applications are 30 pages!
